To celebrate Reggae Month (February), Trojan Records has commissioned a brand new, short video to highlight the history of reggae music, a genre that has had a profound impact on modern music of today.

We salute the culture and influence of the small island of Jamaica, and acknowledge the amazing Jamaican artists who have paved the way for so many. Truly an inspiration.

Reggae came from one of ours Trinidad and Tobago.

@plasteredbastard says:

one may be able to offer a synopsis of what reggae is but it remains undefinable as far how it makes me feel.

@MrDubmaster says:

You guys always tell about a quarter of the story with about a quarter of it being accurate.
Sound Systems started out in the 1940s and 50s – not the 60s. Ska was an evolution of R&B not Mento.
Mento was Jamaican Calypso, the Sound Systems were playing US R&B not Mento.
So much inaccuracy that this pretty little video becomes quite meaningless. Do try a little harder please. 😂

You can’t talk about the early history of Reggae and not mention the name of Peter Tosh. I mean you can’t mention Bob Marley a d forget to mention the person who taught him the guitar🎸 . That was gross ignorance by the compiler of the documentary.🚮

I’ve heard a few stories over the years but can’t be sure myself, one was that Reggae came from a song by Toots called Do the Reggay,

@johnthemainguy9059 says:

Ok, but where did the word Reggae come from?

@dambrooks7578 says:
