Garcia was one of the major composers of the Dominican Republic in the first half of the 20th century, and sometime director of the National Music Conservatory in Santo Domingo (a concert hall there is named after him). The suite from which this piece is taken dates from 1948. The merengue is a Hispaniolan dance form that became popular in the 1920s and eventually became the country’s national music and dance style. This one is very stylised.

Really nice to heard dominican música

Thank you for your response. He composed Ecos del Cibao in 1918, therefore I was curious to hearing it.

yantonio portorreal says:

Very nice! Do you have "Ecos Del Cibao", another merengue composition of Juan F. Garcia?

PSearPianist says:

@CarmenElenaC Thank you!
